Campus Celebrity: Gertie the Poodle Mix

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kenyon chapter.

This week’s Campus Celebrity is a little hairier than usual. Introducing Kenyon’s newest pup star,  Professor Sakai’s dog Gertie! Read on for an exclusive interview with the much-beloved puppy, not to mention some amazing glamour shots.

Hi, Gertie! Thanks for joining us today. Tell us some facts about yourself and how you came to Kenyon.

I am a poodle hybrid mutt mix from California. When I was adopted, unbeknownst to my mom (and multiple vets), I was very pregnant, and I had four furry puppies under her desk two weeks after she adopted me. They looked exactly like me, so you know, I might have come from a puppy mill. My mom is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Art History at Kenyon this year, so I got to come along for the ride.

What are your favorite activities and hobbies? Favorite thing to do around campus?

I love chasing cats, rabbits, squirrels, and deer. I like digging in the snow and hunting for moles. I enjoy snuggling and begging for belly rubs, and playing with my bird-shaped cat toy, Wilbur. I love romping on Middle Path and getting pets from students.

What’s your guilty pleasure snack?

Cat poop!

How are you spending Valentines Day?

What’s that?

What do you look forward to as a new addition to Kenyon?

I love the wildlife here, and the wide open spaces, and the many students. Although I love the snow, I’m really looking forward to the spring!
