A Brief Dialogue with Nick Johnson and Mike Eblin

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kenyon chapter.

Setting: Pierce Hall over a bowl of candy corn

What is your favorite part of Halloween?
Nick: The….uhhh…man…candy corn. I hate candy corn. I get to hate candy corn more than I usually do on Halloween. That’s what I like about it.

How do you feel about candy corn, Mike?
Mike: Candy corn was made in the 50’s. It’s just been recycled year after year. Its so old. I hate candy corn.

When you are NOT not eating candy corn, what are you doing around campus?
M: That would be all the time, so I could really be doing anything.

(A few seconds later…Mike reaches for two pieces of candy corn and eats them)

UHHHHH…Why did you eat two pieces of candy corn if you just told me you don’t like it?
M: All we’ve been doing is talking about candy corn—
N: He’s just human…Mike is repressed. He likes to feel like he’s conforming to and breaking the rules at the same time. It’s his subconscious coming out.

So what were you guys dressed up as for Halloween?
N:
A geisha.
M: A mime. I was in character the whole time. I didn’t say anything.
N: I was also in character. I made 300 dollars in 3 hours.

Let’s get serious now. What kinds of activities do you do on campus?

(Silence)

Okay. How do you feel about being Campus Celebrities?
N: I’m a philosophy major so it was only a matter of time.
M: It feels decadent.  And I’m not surprised.
