Benji Dossetter

Any girl can tell you that nice guys are a rare find. And nice, smart, edgy, guitar-playing guys—well, let’s just say they’re even harder to come by. But Benji Dossetter is one of them. His quirky, unassuming personality combined with his musical skills (he plays in a band on campus called Sports) and apparent soft spot for the theme song from Titanic make him worthy of one of Kenyon’s biggest honors: Campus Cutie.

Name: Benji Dossetter

What’s your spirit animal? Why?
Mountain goat. They’re good at jumping over rocks.

What’s been your favorite class at Kenyon? Why?
Professor Nesholm’s Nero class last semester because it was all about Nero and he was really crazy, debauched.

What’s your favorite Book?
The Master and Margarita because there was a cat with a machine gun in it.

Describe your typical Friday night.
Hang out in the dorm first. Usually head over to Tafts or New Apts.—someone else’s nicer living space and hang out. If there’s a party in an Old Kenyon basement, it’s great to take all their pizza and beer and then leave, unless it’s a cool party, and then you stay. There’s all sorts of fun stuff to do. You can say hi to the goats at the observatory—that’s really fun.

Describe your ideal girl.
Intelligent, self-reliant, and she’d have to be a cutie, too.

If you could plan the perfect date in Gambier, what would it be?
I think it would be great…to have like a really fancy served meal at Peirce, like with a white tablecloth and candelabra. I think that’d be really great. Maybe even get a string quartet.

What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done for a girl?
I asked a girl to Prom once by hiding a stereo in her locker that was triggered to play the song from Titanic when she opened it. I don’t know if that’s romantic, maybe that’s just kind of silly.

If your life was made into a movie, who would be the lead actor. Why?
My ideal would be…Leonardo, but I think in reality it’d be more like Danny DeVito.

What would be your theme song?
Probably that same song from Titanic. It’s the most beautiful song ever written.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I think I’ll either be working at a hospital or I will be—I think it’d be nice to make cabinets—making cabinets.

What’s your favorite meal at Peirce?
Well, today I had the Cuban bean stew, but there was a rock in it, but that was really entertaining. So probably that.

New side or old side?
Definitely new side.

What’s your favorite genre of music?
We can just say Celine Dion since we’re on that trend.

What’s the number one thing on your Kenyon bucket list?
Polar plunge because jumping into freezing water seems really appealing to me for some reason.
