5 Underrated Kenyon Spots to Instagram

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kenyon chapter.

Although I myself do not have an Instagram account, I found exactly what I was expecting when I stalked the Kenyon College hashtag a few days ago.  I scrolled through the seemingly endless snapshots of Middle Path littered with autumn leaves, of proud Old Kenyon spires reaching up to the sky, and of sparkling stained-glass windows in Peirce’s Great Hall. But I feel that these Instagram pictures do not represent Kenyon as whole; we are so much more than wet leaves covering a gravel path and “collegiate gothic” architecture! If you want to make the Kenyon College hashtag a little more exciting, read below for five spots on campus that I feel deserve a little more attention on Instagram.  Hopefully your photo manipulation skills are better than mine!

1.  Cromwell Cottage.  Though it may seem a little weird taking snapshots of President Decatur’s crib, Cromwell Cottage is way too pretty to ignore.  It looks like it’s been plucked up right from an Anne of Green Gables story and adds a touch of quaintness to Middle Path.

2.  Bexley Hall.  Everybody knows about Old Kenyon, which marks the end of the south side of Middle Path.  But because Bexley Hall only houses various administrative offices, its status as the northern end of Middle Path is often overlooked.

3.  This area outside the Hill Theater.  This area (I don’t think it has an official name) not only houses my favorite statue on Kenyon’s campus, but it also serves as an ideal place to study or hang out when the weather is nice enough. Plus, the flowers bloom beautifully in the spring and summer months.

4.  Inside the bookstore.  It may just be me, but in my opinion, nothing is more picturesque than shelves upon shelves of books. And Kenyon’s bookstore certainly provides that, along with the history of being the country’s oldest continuously-running bookstore. All of the vibrant colors of the spines are sure to add some pop to your Instagram feed.

5.  The graveyard outside of the Science Quad. This is an especially timely area on campus to Instagram, now that everybody is excited for the creepiness of Halloween. It’s also a great way to brag to your home friends about how “hard-core” you go here at Kenyon. Because who else can boast that their psych class looks over a cemetery?

With these suggestions, you’re bound to spice up the Kenyon College hashtag!
