5 Things We Want to See at Midnight Breakfast

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kenyon chapter.

Well, folks, it’s that time of the year again.  It’s the weekend before finals week, the one weekend of the year when the library is the most popular hangout spot, as it fills up with students desperate to salvage their grades.  But there is a light at the end of this anxiety-filled weekend: Peirce’s Midnight Breakfast, tonight from 10 pm to midnight.  And while the free candy and piles of comfort food are enough to raise anybody’s trodden spirits, there are a few things that we feel could improve this gluttony-filled Kenyon tradition:

1. More D-Cat!  Last semester, Kenyon students were thrilled to see their new president, Sean Decatur, serving up pancakes and candy behind the Peirce counters.  But how could President Decatur’s presence at midnight breakfast be improved upon this semester?  Let’s get him out from behind the counter to interact more with the students! In fact, maybe we could get all of the professors to dress up in a posh waiters’ uniforms, and have them wait on the students as if we are eating at a five-star restaurant.  Now that’s a treat!

2. A snow cone truck. Every Kenyon student is probably very familiar with the soft-serve machine at Peirce.  But what if we got a huge snow cone truck to park in front of Peirce and make us other delicious frozen treats?  Plus, there’d be a much larger variety of flavors for everybody to enjoy!

3. Cinnamon roll waffles.  There have been countless images on the Internet recently of a genius new invention: cinnamon rolls cooked in a waffle iron!  I know that Peirce has new waffle irons, so why not take some cinnamon rolls and test out what they’d taste like as waffles?  I have never tried these delicious-looking treats, so I know that I’d definitely line up and test them out.

4.  A chocolate fountain. I have seen various chocolate fountains during my time at Kenyon, but what it Peirce got a gigantic one, almost as tall as the ceiling?  Just imagine all of that warm delicious cocoa raining down from the sky.

5. Fewer lines.  Now, this is something that is pretty much unavoidable at Midnight Breakfast.  The servery can get pretty hectic even during a normal mealtime, but it seems like almost everyone on campus comes to Midnight Breakfast for the free candy and pre-finals revelry.

While I probably won’t see any of my suggestions at any Midnight Breakfast any time soon, that doesn’t mean that it will not be an amazing time.  So take a few-hour break from studying and head down to Peirce tonight at 10 (or earlier if you want to secure a good spot in line).  The food and fun will surely not disappoint.

She spent this past summer interning as a writer with both The Daily Meal, a digital media group  dedicated to "all things food and drink" and The Borgen Project, a non-profit organization that partners with U.S. policymakers to alleviate global poverty. Before entering the "real world" of jobs, however, Ally spent many summers as a counselor at an all-girls summer camp in Vermont, aka the most wonderful place on earth. A good book, a jar of peanut butter, a well-crafted Spotify playlist, and a lazy dog could get her through even the worst of days.
