5 Things to Tide You Over Until Thanksgiving Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kenyon chapter.

If you’re anything like me, you probably feel ready for Thanksgiving Break. Halloween is over, and the prospect of going home to enjoy that delicious Thanksgiving feast seems more and more appealing. However, we still have almost a week until break begins, so I’ve prepared a list of some fun fall things you can do to tide you over until then.

1. Bake some yummy fall desserts: Just because Halloween is over doesn’t mean you can’t continue to enjoy some pumpkin baked goods. One of my favorite fall activities is baking chocolate chip pumpkin bread; the bread is a delicious treat when you’re studying, and baking it is always super fun! You can buy a mix from Walmart or get supplies from Walmart or the Market for tons of other baked goodies.

2. Make Thanksgiving/fall decorations for your dorm room: It can be fun to take a study break and get crafty! There are tons of fall craft ideas and instructions on Pinterest, or you can always go old school and make turkeys by tracing your hand on colorful construction paper. The decorations will help make your room look much more cheerful, and it will make you excited for the holiday!

3. Enjoy wearing fall clothes while you can: Once we get back from break it’ll be December, and Gambier will definitely be getting some more winter weather. Before the weather gets too cold, enjoy those articles of clothing such as skirts and tights that will soon be too impractical to wear.

4. Take a walk/bike ride on the Gap Trail: Kenyon is known for its gorgeous autumn and, in my opinion, one of the prettiest places in the area is the Gap Trail. Go out and enjoy its beauty by taking a walk or a bike ride.

5. Get off campus for a few hours: In the stretch of time between Fall Break and our long-awaited Thanksgiving Break, Kenyon’s campus can start to feel a little restricting. So take a short trip off campus to tide you over until you actually get to leave for a week! The Mt Vernon Shuttle takes students into Mt Vernon for free on Wednesday and Friday evenings (running hourly from 4-10) and Saturday afternoons and evenings (running hourly from 1-10). Take a quick trip to check out some local shops or maybe get a bite to eat that’s a change from Peirce. It will be refreshing just to get off campus for a few hours.

Try some of these suggestions to help you enjoy the last bit of fall. And hang in there Kenyon; break is almost here!
