Beyonce’s pregnancy announcement is one for the history books

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kent State chapter.

Once again, Beyoncé Knowles has dropped another big surprise. On February 1, 2017 she took to social media posting a photo of her in ruffled panties and a purple bra with a caption stating, “We would like to share our love and happiness. We have been blessed two times over. We are incredibly grateful that our family will be growing by two, and we thank you for your well wishes. – The Carters” By now I’m sure if you’re reading this you’ve seen it, because It is going down in the books as the most liked Instagram picture; racking up 10.5 million likes and counting.

Viewers were ecstatic as they read to find out she’s not just pregnant with one– but two. The beyhive (which I have proudly been a member of since ‘98) instantly took pride in reposting the multiple pictures as if the unborn twins were their own. The photos were astonishing! There were mixed comments about the photo shoot. Some, of course, said it was foul to show her naked body and others, well, they thought her reasoning behind this was to clear up any rumors before they started. If you weren’t aware when Bey was pregnant with her first child, Blue, the media crashed on her saying that her belly was fake and she was using surrogacy services. Ridiculous, right?  And me, I don’t really care what the reasons were for her posing half-way nude in these art pieces. The world should just be grateful that it had an opporitunity to catch a glimpse of them. Overall, I wholeheartedly thought the pictures depicted what a beautiful thing a women’s body truly is. Thanks Queen bey, for kicking the month of love off in such an iconic way.

I hope after you heard the news that Beyoncé was pregnant you did not think she was going to back out of any of her performance promises. I mean let’s not forget, she did an amazing job in her performance at the VMA’S in 2011 while pregnant with her first child. Honestly, you could say it was better than some stars, when they are not even baring a child. So Bey showed up at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards and delivered an original performance with great imagery that the audience craved.

Beyoncé wore a gold dress by designer Peter Dundas that made her glow like the sun. The designer took influence from the African goddess, Oshun, to help bring to life Beyoncé’s narrative. To relate to the images she posted online, flower petals covered the stage as the pregnant star began to sing her hit ballads “Love Drought” and “Sandcastles.” Her performance made me shed a few tears. I don’t know if it was the effects of her flawless vocals singing an emotional song  or the beauty of the shimmering gold popping off her already glowing body. I can’t forget to mention the most iconic moment when her chair leaned back off the table making an illusion that she was defying gravity. Queen Bey, you slayed, ever so effortlessly as always.

Beyoncé is scheduled to headline at Coachella in April. It is said that she won’t drop out of her performance. It is also unknown how her pregnancy will affect her performance if she does follow through. But, I think I speak for all true Beyoncé fans when I say, it doesn’t matter if she’s sitting, strutting, swaying, or standing still, we will definitely love to see her and the twins perform again.

Let us all bow down to Queen Bey
