How to Make a Vision Board?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JMU chapter.

Looking into the future is a scary thing, but glitter, magazines, and a little bit of glue—that’s not intimidating in the slightest! If you’ve ever had a dream, goal, idea, or vision, you’ve probably kept it in the back of your mind or written it on a Post-It note to look at down the road, but maybe that didn’t actually motivate you to do anything about it right now. I’m betting that most of you have even made a collage before with all of your favorite things or things you just want out of life.

So what the heck is a vision board? It’s basically a combination of a collage and a list with your goals or visions for the future. Why does this seem less intimidating? Because it’s right in front of you and is under your control to make it look exactly how you want!

What you’ll need:

  • Magazines to cut up

  • Glue

  • Any size poster board

  • Pens/pencils

  • Extra paper (optional)

  • Anything extra you think you might want (glitter, stickers, etc.)

The great thing about a vision board is that there is no wrong way to do it! It’s yours and it expresses how you feel and what YOU want. Keyword: YOU! Choose as far ahead or in the near future as you would like because all that matters is that you enjoy making it and having something to remind you that you are in control of your future.

Some vision boards include career dreams, fitness goals, quotes or words of wisdom, friendships, relationships, etc. It’s fun to be able to look back at previous boards and see how much you have grown as a person too! You can put as much or as little as you want on it.

Here are some examples!

Have you ever thought "Am I the only one who..."? I'm sure you have, and I promise you're not. Live the life you love. I don't take things too seriously, because life is too short to be so obsessed with what everyone thinks of me. I became a writer so I could say what everyone else is thinking. I believe that treating others the way you want to be treated means you will never have to regret a decision you make. I make mistakes, but that's what makes great articles!
