How to Escape the School Slump

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JMU chapter.

It’s almost the fourth week of classes and I’m already in a school slump. I do homework, attend classes, and come back home only to work on more homework. Sometimes this college thing is such a drag. Luckily, I found a few exciting activities that I’ve been using to escape my slump. If you’re feeling like me, I heartily encourage you to give a few of these a try. Whichever option you choose, it’s bound to be a good time!

1.       Pamper yourself with a mani/pedi

Don’t you just love that feeling of being pampered? I sure do. Stop by a local nail salon for a quick pick-me-up and wear some open toed shoes for the last few days of summer.

2.       Prep for fall with a little hair care

Yesterday, I went a little crazy and decided to grab a box of hair dye. I can honestly say that, while the color isn’t very drastic, having a little change really helped with my funk. Fall is coming fast and hair dye is just one of those things that is fun to do with the season changes.

3.       Host a mini dance party

I hold a strong belief that dancing is therapeutic. It’s a little bit of exercise and a whole lot of fun. Gather up your girls, find a good Spotify playlist, and spend some time dancing because its a sure-fire way to put a smile on your face.

4.       Self-medicate with sugar

Sugar is one of those magical substances that yields instant happiness. Whether it’s extra sugar in your coffee, a bit of candy, or some freshly baked goodies, it’s a perfect way to get into a better mood.

5.       Live it up with some lovely people

There are so many wonderful things to do with your time but spending an evening with good friends is the best way to spend it. Put away the books; gather some friends for a movie night in the dorm or dress up for a night out.
