Five Reasons Why You Should Try Zucchini Noodles (Zoodles)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JMU chapter.

First off, what are zoodles? Well zoodles are short for Zucchini Noodles, which are basically spiralized zucchini to look like noodles. They are a fresh and healthy alternative to pasta!

1.They are very low in calories

Just the noodles alone are drastically less in calories compared to a regular cup of pasta.

Pasta: 1 cup cooked = 221 calories – 43g carbs

Zucchini 1 cup = 25 calories – 4.6g carbs and additional vitamins, nutrients and antioxidants not found in processed pasta.

2. They are gluten, grain, and wheat free.

For all you people out there with a gluten allergy, or on a gluten-free diet, Zoodles are a  great meal for all your gluten free needs!

3. Zoodles are cheap and easy to make!

If you don’t have much time for or interest in cooking then you’ll be happy to know that zoodles are basically foolproof. All you need is some raw zucchini and a spiralizer to complete the task. Zoodles can be eaten raw or cooked if you prefer. Then just heat up your choice of sauce and you are good to go.

4. Good source of nutrients.

Squash groups are a good source of vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin B6, potassium and other essential nutrients. Just two cups’ worth also provides about 15 percent of your daily dietary fiber needs.

5. Zoodles help increase your vegetable intake too!

It is recommended to eat four to five servings of vegetables every day, although majority of people fail to achieve this goal. Zoodles are the perfect solution to help achieve your vegetable intake while also tasting good!
