10 Thoughts You Have When You See Tour Groups on Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JMU chapter.

It’s that time of the year where the campus is filled with many new faces. Whether they’re seniors in high school who got their acceptance letter and have to decide if this is where they want to spend their next four years or juniors in high school beginning their college search. When we see a tour group there’s a couple of thoughts that come to our mind.

1. “Why are there so many people here?” – Your semester routine is set, but as soon as the year comes to an end, you notice more people in the buildings you basically live in. Then you realize it’s tour group season, and the nostalgia begins to creep in.

2. “You all are lovely, but please get out of my way.” – It just feels like every time you’re in a rush, the crowd seems to follow you.

3. “Good thing you guys came on a nice day.” – Face it, campus is the best when the weather is nice and people are out and about. It really brings out the “movie-esque” college vibe.

4. “Aww, I remember that”- When you pass a tour group, you can listen in on what they’re learning about your school and reminisce.

5. “That group is blocking my path; I’m not sure if I should walk around them or through.” – Especially if you’re walking to class and they’re going the same direction as you, or they take up a whole walkway. Decisions, decisions.

6. “There are so many tour groups today and I look like I stayed up all night doing work. Oh wait, I did.”- Your hair’s a mess, you have coffee in your hand, and you’re probably sleep-deprived, but it just happens to be a busy tour day. At least they get a glimpse of a college student in their natural habitat.

7.“Please don’t notice me in my “shambly” state.” – Whether you pulled an all-nighter or you went out on a Tuesday, if you don’t look or feel your best, you don’t want anybody to notice –especially prospective students or their parents.

8. “Secretly, I want to jump into their tour experience, but I don’t want to be rude.”- Because you want to share your experience and there’s nothing wrong with that. After all, you we’re once in their shoes.

9.  “Let me be the reason you come here.”- Face it, we’ve all had that one person (or people) we saw during our tour of the campus that made us think, “Wow, I’m coming here. This is it.”  We just hope that one day someone from a tour group looks at you and thinks the same thing you did.

10. “PLEASE COME HERE. YOU’LL LOVE IT, I PROMISE.” – Despite some slight inconveniences, it brightens your day seeing potential new students and hoping that they will love the school as much as you do.
