Twice a year when the fashion weeks roll around, we are inspired by the trends we see on the runway, whether sartorial or beauty related. Oftentimes, many of the looks we see are too avant-garde for everyday life, but we can tone them down them by pulling certain aspects and incorporating them into our looks. With New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2016 freshly in mind, these were some of the most memorable beauty looks and how to pull them off in everyday life.

Jeremy Scott

Colors were bold, from the turquoise dash of liner in the crease to the almost Barbie pink lips. Instead of taking the liner up into the crease, try an aqua wing or pat some pink lipstick on if the full-on lip is too much for you. Use a touch of highlighter in place of the stars and some orangey-coral polish on your nails. Be sure to balance the bright colors with clean skin and only the barest hint of blush.

Naeem Khan

A decidedly Edwardian hairstyle with romantic berries hints to the makeup. Add volume to your hair and put it up in a bun. Try a plum blush on your cheeks or a berry lip. Make sure to fill in your brows to complement the lipstick or blush and only a subtle wash of nude or gray eyeshadow on the lids.

Rodarte

The models gave off a woodland fairy feel with the flower adornments in their hair and their fresh skin. The lip took center stage; try a matte oxblood dabbed on the lips for a slight stain to prevent yourself from looking too gothic. Keep the skin clean and the brows groomed but not too immaculate. For the hair, a floral or jeweled headband would work nicely to keep the hairstyle more casual.

Tadashi Shoji

There was a slept-in, grungy look backstage. Sleep with your hair in braids or crunch it with some sea-salt spray to achieve the messy, slightly wavy look. The eyes were smoky black with a pop of copper in the center. Instead of going for mostly black on the lid, use a copper shadow all over the lid and smudge some black eyeliner or shadow near your lashline to give it a smokier feel. Just some lip balm on your lips keeps the focus on your eyes.

Now that New York Fashion Week has been covered, stay tuned for London and later, Milan and Paris!
