Navigating Laundry in the Freshmen Dorms

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JHU chapter.

After navigating the communal laundry room for the better part of a semester (and only losing a handful of socks), I have compiled a list of tips that would help even the most inexperienced laundry novice successfully maneuver laundry in the dorms.

1. Wait until the last possible minute to do your laundry, ensuring that for the last couple days of the week you have nothing but your FFC issued “I blue jay FFC” shirt to wear.

2. Do your laundry on Sunday afternoon. Don’t worry, it won’t be crowded.

3. If the laundry room is full, babysit an “in-use” washing machine— the moment the times hits 0, dump all of the wet clothes inside onto the laundry room floor.

4. Showing complete disregard for clothing care labels, through everything you own indiscriminately into the dryer and hope for the best.

5. Bring your clean laundry back to your room and leave it in your dirty laundry bag until it becomes wrinkled and needs to be rewashed.
