Annie Hosler ’15

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JHU chapter.

Name: Annie Hosler

Year: Junior

Major: Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering

Minor: Entrepreneurship and Management

Hometown: Piedmont, CA

I first met Annie Hosler Freshmen year. She engaged me with stories of her famous family (so famous I met someone in Cuba who knew them, CUBA. A place American’s legally aren’t allowed to go!), we bonded over Disney and baking, while she wowed me with all of the commitments she undertook. I got to see her as a debutante, eat ice cream with her on the regular at Coldstone, and sing my heart out with her on our way to Disneyland. I honestly couldn’t think of a better person to be my first Campus Celebrity since not only is she one of my closest friends, she’s also involved in EVERYTHING!

Campus Activities: I am the Chapter President of Pi Beta Phi, I am a Co-Captain of the Women’s Club Volleyball Team, and I am a brother of Theta Tau.

Annie is such an amazing captain because of her enthusiasm and dedication to helping our team succeed on the court, but also because of her compassion, understanding, and encouragement off the court. These qualities are also what make her such a great friend! (Jackie Starrett)

What is a fun or unique fact about you? In high school, I started a business baking cakes and bringing them to young girls’ birthday parties to teach them how to decorate cakes with frosting.

“Annie was a born leader.” (Maria Vasiljević)

What is something you wish you could tell pre-Freshmen year you? If I could tell pre-Freshman year me something, it would be to always keep a smile on my face. Everyone has moments in their life when they struggle. The best way for me to overcome these challenges is to approach them with a positive attitude and a smile.

“She’s perfect, like what else is there to say?” (Maria Callahan)

What’s your family like? I am the oldest of 7 kids—three girls, four boys. I grew up very close to my siblings. My favorite thing that we did as a family when I was younger was the Holiday photo we took every year. Each year for the past 6 or so years, we have done a themed card. Some of these themes include Brady Bunch, Snow White, Dr. Seuess’s Things 1-7, Crew Team, and Who’s Down in Whoville. Growing up in such a large family has taught me about the person that I want to be and has shaped my future in so many positive ways.

Where do you see yourself in ten years? In ten years, I hope to be a practicing chemical engineer at a large company, designing a product that the average American uses.

“Annie is one of the most remarkable people I have ever met! She is by far the kindest and most capable person at this school and probably the world! I am truly honored to call her my friend.” (Joanna Wexler)

What has been your most rewarding Hopkins experience? My most rewarding experience at Hopkins has been becoming involved with the amazing organizations within I have immersed myself. I have garnered strong friendships and learned life lessons that will remain with me for the rest of my life.

Favorite Movie? – Princess Diaries (duh!)

Piece of advice you try to live by? Tell the truth. All the time.

“Fair enough.” (Wadsworth Williams quoting Annie Hosler)
