5 Pieces to Add to Your Fall Wardrobe This Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JHU chapter.

Now that fall is finally upon us, it’s time to put away our summer dresses and sandals and get out our sweaters and boots. While I know I’m excited to dig up clothes I forgot I had from the basement and wear them again, I’m also looking forward to the newness of the season. New seasons means new trends, and fall 2015 certainly won’t disappoint. Here are the pieces you should look out for when you set out to revamp your fall wardrobe.

1. Faux Fur Vest

Stay warm, stylish and ethical in a faux fur vest this season. You can wear this vest over pretty much anything from a plaid shirt to a LBD. Throw in a long necklace to add some bling and ankle booties for some edge.

2. Flared Jeans

Don’t worry, you can wear these without looking frumpy or like your mom. In fact, these jeans elongate your legs and make you look taller. The key is playing with proportions and knowing what looks good for your body type. If you’re short like me, make sure your jeans are perfectly tailored and aren’t too long for you. Stay away from super flared jeans – they don’t look good on anyone. Also, definitely wear some sort of heeled shoes with these – they will prevent your jeans from dragging on the floor all day, and also help make your legs look longer. A high-waisted fit would also make you look taller. If you’re curvy, wear a blazer or some other fitted jacket on top to streamline your outfit. If you’re tall, avoid wearing a long shirt on top—it will swallow up your figure.

3. Cocoon Coat

The silhouette of this jacket is incredibly flattering for anyone and everyone. Not to mention extremely chic and warm. Also, Parisian women love them, and who doesn’t want to look like a fashionable French woman?

4. Over the Knee Boots

This is a tricky trend to pull off for sure, but so exceptionally chic. Try it with a dress or skirt on a warmer day and a jacket, scarf, and leggings on a chillier day. Of course Stuart Weitzman started this trend, but there are a lot of other affordable options as well like this pair from Steve Madden. A pair that doesn’t sit too high above the knee and isn’t too tight or too lose works best.

5. Chunky Sweater

This is such a wardrobe staple. I live in these during the fall and winter months because they are so comfortable and effortless. This season calls for a turtleneck version, leaving you extra warm. Wear it with over-the-knee boots to look especially on trend.

While we’re all broke college girls, adding in one or two new pieces each season is enough to spice things up and get us out of a “I don’t know what to wear” rut without breaking the bank. Besides, who doesn’t love an excuse to go shopping?
