Top Not-Scary Halloween Movies

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Jefferson chapter.

Everyone loves a good Halloween movie, but some of us are big scaredy cats and can’t watch horror movies. Here are two great movies that two of our HC team members love to watch to get in the Halloween spirit without getting scared, to help you kick off the month of October.

Not-so-scary: Beetlejuice

I am not a horror movie fan at all and have a hard time watching them, so when Halloween time rolls around I’m used to fun seasonal movies. Beetlejuice is one I like and is not scary at all (even though I do have a friend that was convinced it was a horror movie!). It is the story of a couple who haunts their old house once a new family moves in and how getting help from the spirit Beetlejuice might not be the best idea. If you’ve never seen it I highly recommend. You still get all of the Halloween vibes plus Alec Baldwin, Winona Ryder, and Michael Keaton – what’s not to love? – Kellyn

Not-so-scary: Hocus Pocus

What is Halloween without Hocus Pocus? I grew up watching this on ABC Family’s 13 Nights of Halloween and absolutely love everything about it.  It’s the story of three witches (the Sanderson sisters) coming back from the dead to “suck the lives out of all the children of Salem” and a group of “modern day” (90’s) kids trying to stop them. All of the characters are super fun, especially the cursed boy-turned-cat Thackery Binx and the zombie Billy.  There’s also a great rendition of “I Put a Spell on You” sung by head witch Winnie who is played by one of my personal favorites, Bette Midler.  -Ashby
