15 Things John Carroll Students are Thankful For

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JCU chapter.

Earlier in November, we asked the JCU community what they are thankful for at John Carroll. We got a lot of amazing responses from all of you, and it made us realize how much we truly do have to be thankful for. We hope this inspires you to reflect on what you are thankful for at JCU and in your life. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Break!

1.       The comic amusement of the squirrels on JCU’s campus You can always rely on the squirrels to make you laugh. Or run in fear. Either or.

2.      I’m thankful for all those who serve our country and enable those of us at home to live happy, safe lives

Let’s give thanks for those who serve our country or are planning to do so after college.

3.      All of the tutoring you are able to receive as a student here

Sending some love to the Writing Center, Career Center, Math Lab, and all other services on campus.

4.      The students

I mean, yeah, I would say we are pretty awesome. Spoiler alert: This one was written by Father Bernie.

5.      Bernard, the ladies that work at the Inn Between, and the cleaning staff in the Residence Halls

Not only do they do amazing work for our community, but they also keep our spirits bright. Have you ever tried not to smile during a conversation with Bernard? Impossible.

6.      The loving and accepting student community You’ll never have to worry about the door being opened for you.

7.      Chicken tender baskets, pizza, omelets at breakfast, bacon, Thanksgiving Dinner and the Millor sandwich Clearly, someone was thinking about food… But in all seriousness, as much as we like to complain about the cafe, we are lucky to have food on the table each day.

8.      Fleece lined leggings, Starbucks, and Einstein’s Not much more to say about this one. (But it is kind-of-really-a-lot true.)

9.      The chairs overlooking the campus in the library Well, when you have a campus that looks like this, you can’t help but find amazing places to admire it from.

10.   My fabulous friends who have given me a family so far away from home.

Home is where the heart is. (Special shout out to my friends and sisters who have helped me make JCU my home.)

11.    The faith community

It’s pretty amazing. Come on, even the Pope approves!

12.   Therapy dogs during finals weeks!

Cuddles and fur and happiness. What’s not to love?

13.   The free chocolate and flowers randomly in the atrium

Personally, I live for the free stuff in the Atrium. Especially tshirts. And hot chocolate during finals.

14.   The opportunity to further my education at such a great school It is always good to remember how lucky we are to have access to a college education at all. Let alone at a great school like John Carroll.

15.   Everything and everyone who exists to make others’ lives better

At the end of the day, we are always men and women for others. It’s so important to be thankful for those around you and what they are doing to better our world. We go to school with some amazing individuals, so let’s give thanks for everyone in our JCU community!

Brittany, a Senior at JCU, has a passion for tea, books, writing, and London. As an English major, you can usually find her curled up with a good book somewhere on-campus (usually in O'Malley). She loves everything about Her Campus, and she finds it extremely exciting and rewarding to be a Campus Correspondent!
