The Year I Finally Grew Up

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IUP chapter.

This year my parents moved out of the house that I had lived in for 14 years. I grew up in that house with sleepovers, birthdays, family cook-outs, and holiday crafts. My parents now live in a comfortable apartment about 90 minutes away from my old house. It is a new chapter in both of our lives, and even though it is different, I’m not disappointed. Home for me is not a place, but where I am loved and comforted. I can be at home almost anywhere as long as I have good company and a comfortable bed. That is what makes traveling for me so mind opening, because I have more “homes” with every trip. Of course there are times at school and during my travels where I get home-sick and miss my mom–but who doesn’t?

Last week was my first time in the new apartment and everything fits. There are still boxes that need to be unpacked, but in time it will seem like we’ve been living there for years. Hopefully I will have time to unpack some things this weekend. So, imprace changes and differences, because they can offer some get opportunities. It may seem as though your life is changing so fast, but life likes to surprise us. Let the new winds guide you. The grass really is greener on the other side.
