Upcoming LGBTQIA Spirit Week at IUP

The end of Homecoming week kicks of the start of LGBTQIA Spirit Week. Midway through the week on October 16th, it is LGBT Spirit Day. LGBT Spirit Day has been observed since annually since 2010. On Spirit Day schools, organizations, corporations, individuals, and public figures wear purple which symbolizes spirit on the rainbow flag.

 

The LGBTQIA Spirit Week at IUP kicks off on Saturday, October 11th with National Coming Out Day. You can join Pride Alliance as well as the Indiana Cares Campaign and others at the parade.

On the following Sunday, there will be film screening as a part of LGBT Film Festival Stouffer Hall at 6pm. The movie shown that evening will be Happy End?!With Monday comes the 6 O’Clock series in the HUB Ohio Room. This week it will feature Stephanie Laffin from the It Gets Better Project. Following the presentation there will be discussion session from 7:45 until 9:00pm.On Tuesday there will be another presentation in the HUB at 1:00pm in the Susquehanna Room called Strategies to Prevent Cyber Bullying.Wednesday evening there is presentation by Ammon Ripple titled Spirit of Equality: Communities Acting to End Discrimination in Delaney Hall.Thursday is Spirit Day! Wear purple! There will also be a candlelight vigil in the Oak Grove at 7:00pm.

LGBTQIA Spirit Week wraps up with an open house and potluck in the LGBTQIA resource room in Delaney Hall.

I'm currently a sophomore at IUP studying in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Someday I hope to be a history and ESL teacher. I like to spend my spare time watching movies and baking cookies.
