Undergraduate Anxiety: A collegiette story of senior year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IUP chapter.

All of your life you have knew what the next couple of months was going to be like for the most part. It was either elementary school, junior high, high school, and college/trade school. For those of us who are going to be graduating in less than 4 months, you are stressing about what you are going to do after you receive your degree. Many students will go to grad school, peace corps, or possibly go into the military. For the others, you will be going to have to apply to internships/jobs and figure out where you want to live after graduation.

The last semester is going to be a stressful one because not only are you a full time student, but also a part time worker, career seeker, interviewee, executive board member, and a friend. That can be very exhausting managing that schedule. It is definitely important to do all of your homework, go to your classes, and still make a living to survive. In this modern time, its good that you can have skype and phone interviews which are not very time consuming which is great for your busy schedule.

Applying to a job or internship twice a week can definitely help with the search. This will not overwhelm you and still allow you to be the girlboss that you are.  Job fairs are also convenient because they are not long, there are so many employers there, and it’s a one stop shop for everything. Don’t stress if you don’t have a job right when you graduate because a big percentage don’t. Many fields require something like a certification to go into place before you can start start working places. It is okay to stay in your hometown or city for a year to save up money in case you want to go to a major area that can be more expensive. It is best to do that because then you do not have to worry about not having enough money and having to do something else.

It is key to still maintain your friendships but also do think about your social media presence when it comes to posting pictures and statements; keep it professional. If you need to, make your accounts private but don’t hide your account because employers do know that you have accounts so that can seem shady to them. It is definitely suggested to clean up your accounts before you start applying so that way you do not miss out on any awesome opportunities at your dream workplace or field. Linkedin is also an awesome networking medium to connect with employers. You will never know who can help you get your dream job or even a good job to start out with to help establish yourself.

Maintain your awesome friendships at school while you have them. It is good to be organized and have time management but having your friends so close will probably not happen after graduation. It is harder to keep up with friends after graduation so enjoy the time you can spend with them right now. Take pictures, go on road trips, and do things you have never done. This is the time!!

Have a great semester collegiettes and become your own woman!!
