My College Friends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IUP chapter.

When I first came to college, I was excited for a new experience from gaining knowledge through my major, getting to know the town of Indiana, and of course gaining new friends and connections that I would meet through my travels.

I was not sure where or when I was going to find them but I was optimistic that I was going to find some great ones. During my first semester, I did find friends and they were awesome to have to deal with the beginning of the adventure which is college. There were definitely times during my freshman year where I felt lonely and wanted a girlfriend to be there for me there. St. Patrick’s day gave me the luck of having a great time with some new awesome friends that are truly an asset.

A lot of the friends that I found through my college experience were through mutual friends. I am thankful to have met every friend that I have gained through my college experience.

Getting involved was one of the best things I ever did and I gained so many great connections/friends through doing it. Her Campus has given me so many new people in my life and they help me get through the rough times. They are there for you when you need it and also can be a great help with articles. The IUP Fashion Association has allowed me to gain key contacts, network with industry professionals and gain a lot of key information that will help me succeed in my future career.  Getting involved in your major is definitely something that people should consider because you can get help with homework, find out the best classes to take, and gain experience in your major that will help you greatly in the long. It is also a lot of fun because you get to take part in things that other people do not take advantage of. I am so glad that I joined this wonderful organization because it gave me such a sense of purpose throughout my undergraduate years and did it for a very affordable, sustainable price.

Not all of your friends are going to have the same opinions on many issues that you do but that does not mean you cannot be friends. That just makes them different and you can see someone’s opinion and gain the knowledge from that.

Being dedicated to your studies is very important but it is not everything. Sometimes you just need to go out and have some fun with your friends because you will remember those memories way longer than just doing homework. It will be there tomorrow and it will get done anyway. This will help when it comes to getting roommates, hearing recommendations about classes/professors, and make you happier in the long run.

I truly can say that I found my people and it definitely did not happen at first but I am so thankful to have them in my life.
