Aislinn Aimino, IUPTV

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IUP chapter.

Seen on IUPTV, She acts, she writes, she edits, she directs, and she is this week’s campus celebrity: Ms. Aislinn Amino. Aislinn is the “Oh so talented girl,” with the different color hairstyles and the cheerful attitude.  Living only twenty minutes away in Dayton, Pennsylvania, she feels she was brought to the IUP campus by a family legacy.

“I was kind of brought here by a legacy. My parents are alumni from the university so I was pushed to come here for my bachelors, but the most important reason why I came to IUP was for the IUPTV station and all of the opportunities that the communication media major provides its students.”

Aislinn is a communication media major and she came to IUP with two goals in mind; to continue her family legacy and to join the IUPTV station.

“When I heard about the TV station, I knew I wanted to be on it. I want to be able to have a career in film or television so a college TV station is the best place to start.” Aislinn started her freshman year with her goals, and by the end September 2013, she was already a general member for IUPTV station. She started off as an actor and an editor on IUPTV’s comedy show, SketchOPhrenia.

“I became an actor and editor on SketchOPhrenia because I wanted to be on a show that filmed out of studio. SketchOPhrenia was the only show that gave me that opportunity so I started off as an actor on the show. I also knew how to edit video because I went to a tech school during my high school career so I decided to edit as well. As the show gradually moved through its season, I started getting more involved. Not only was I an actor and editor, but I became a writer and soon I became an assistant director and I was promoted to head writer”

Aislinn was able to work her way to the top by dedicating herself to SketchOPhrenia. She acted when they needed an actress. She edited when they needed an editor. She wrote when they needed a writer, and then she directed when they needed an assistant director.  All of the hard work that Aislinn has put forth has worked to her advantage. The dedication she gave to the show SketchOPhrenia gave her the chance to win Best Freshman in Communications Media Awards Banquet and she was promoted to technical producer on the show.

“I dedicated myself to SketchOPhrenia because I know this is what I want to do after I graduate. I want to be able to say I have experience from every aspect in film. I want to be able  to say I am a hardworking individual and I have the ability to do anything with the film and TV industry.”

Aislinn’s plans in the future are just as busy. She plans to build up her reputation. She wants to be able to intern for TV shows such as Saturday Night Live and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.  She wants to be in the Independent Film industry doing anything that she can. Before she takes the step into the film industry, she is willing to take a regular job as a commercial editor.

“I am willing to take a 9 to 5 job as a commercial editor at the beginning of my career but my dream is to be in film. I have wanted this since high school. This is my dream and overall goal.”

Aislinn was able to prove her abilities in a world of comedy. She strives to become an independent film director.  Aislinn’s advice to others students “Don’t wait to get involved and start making connections now.” Coming from Missy Elliot’s song, Work It, Aislinn’s favorite quote for her fellow ladies is “Ain’t no shame, ladies do your thang, just make sure you’re ahead of the game.”
