11 Reasons Fall is the Best Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IUP chapter.

This week, we transition from Summer to Fall. No longer will we be drinking venti iced coffee, or spending the day at the beach with our friends. Now we have pumpkin spice lattes, and weekend bonfires complete with warm hoodies and scarves. What are some of your favorite things about the Fall season?

1. Sweaters, hoodies, leggings, boots, socks, scarves… etc…etc…

Even if you hate the cold weather that Fall brings, you have to admit that nothing is better than being bundled up in a scarf and boots when a cool breeze hits. It’s the season of layering.

2. Hot coffee

Coffee tastes so much better hot, and now it’s finally acceptable to drink it that way again instead of over ice. Oh, and don’t forget all the amazingly, delicious (and unhealthy) new drinks that you can order now!

3. Baked goods

Cinnamon rolls, pumpkin muffins, apple pie, pecan rolls, pumpkin pie.. need I say more? (Except, maybe let your grandma do the baking this year…)

4. Pumpkin spice

Literally everything has a pumpkin spice version now. From Oreos to milk, and chapstick to perfume… you can have pumpkin spice everything.

5. Halloween

This is one of the best holidays of the entire year. You get to be whoever, or whatever, you want to be for a whole day all while collecting candy from strangers, and indulging for practically no reason at all.

6. Corn mazes, pumpkin patches and farmer’s markets

Everybody should spend at least one weekend this Fall exploring their local farms. At this time of year, many will offer fun activities like hay rides, corn mazes, pumpkin patches and farmer’s markets. Plan a day of with a few friends and take some Instagram worthy pictures so that everybody else is jealous of your Fall experience!

7. Leaves

The leaves change from green to various reds, oranges, yellows and browns, and fall all around. The moment the leaves start to change, you know it’s Fall. Which means you get to experience all of these wonderful things… finally.

8. Thanksgiving

A day of feasting? Count me in. You might have to deal with annoying family members asking “What are your plans for the future?” or “Do you have a boyfriend yet?” But you can deal with your annoying Aunt Cheryl’s questions as long as she’s supplying you with endless mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie.

9. Black Friday and Grey Thursday

Once you’ve had your fill of delicious food and taken a nice turkey nap, it’s time to hit the mall! Burn calories as you shop the early morning away and get the best deals of the year, just try not to fight anybody over the last big screen TV at Wal-Mart…

10. Weather

There is always a cool breeze floating through the Fall air. Nothing beats 65 degrees and partly cloudy.

11. Cuddling

Now I know what you’re thinking… but you don’t need a significant other for this one. Grab your furry friend and cuddle up next to the fire with a blanket and a movie and enjoy a relaxing evening alone.

Fall is a wonderful season full of wonderful opportunities! Make sure you enjoy it before winter rolls around.
