By Bailey Loosemore
April 28, 2011 - 6:09pm

It started with a need for a place to sleep.

The Saturday after Halloween, I returned to Bloomington from attending my grandpa’s funeral in Cleveland. There was a going-away party that night for a few friends, and I felt like taking a break from the stress of the previous week.

Confessions of a Pageant Princess

By Francesca Fuerman
April 22, 2011 - 12:34am

Rachel is one of my sorority sisters and best friends in college. She’s the older sister I wished I had, and has taught me about fake eyelashes, spray tans, and being fierce. Needless to say, I’ve always admired her. On stage at the Bloomington Convention Center, under bright lights, in heels and a leopard print gown, the audience sees her as a woman of glamour, poise, and talent. In other words, everything it means to be a pageant girl. Watching her compete in Miss Indiana University in March was my first pageant experience. READ MORE

The Conflicting Schedule of A Collegiette (TM) Catholic

By Elizabeth McGrath
April 21, 2011 - 12:14am

Some may think I’m a loser or a prissy good girl because I go to church on a regular basis. I mean, why bother? I don’t have my parents around telling me I have to go.

Well, it’s the complicated combination of Catholic guilt, actually enjoying practicing my faith and a guaranteed peaceful hour away from my never-ending to-do list that gets me into a pew each Sunday night. READ MORE

Quals Terror

By Rachael Podbielak
April 14, 2011 - 9:49pm

I could feel my heart pounding in my chest, the wind blowing against my cheeks, and the pedals under my feet. My leg muscles tightened as I pushed harder around the final turn on the track. I knew I wasn’t going as fast as I could, but my nerves prevented me from going any faster. I had never been able to stop in front of the starting line before, and now I was going to have to do it in front of hundreds of people. READ MORE

How To Stay Gluten-Free on a Pizza-Driven Campus

By Rachael Podbielak
April 7, 2011 - 8:04pm

This discomfort and even pain and nausea can be something serious. In some cases, when the culprit seems to be anything with gluten (i.e. bread, pasta, muffins, cake, cookies, pizza, etc.), the cause can be Celiac disease. “Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder in which the body is hypersensitive to gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley," says Elin Grimes, registered dietician at the IU Health Center.
