The Brospective: Miley Speaks Truth

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IU chapter.

What’s your biggest turn-on?

A laugh, most definitely. Nothing beats a great laugh. Your laugh tells a lot about you, and it really distinguishes you. It can definitely be a deal breaker; but on the flip side, it could seal the deal. Of course, you’ll probably need more than just laughing to win the heart of myself or any other males, but it’s a good start.

What’s your most embarrassing moment with a lady friend?

Back in the ol’ high school, I had been noticing this girl showing up to our parish’s youth group. Quite a cutie. And of course I only knew very little about her—her being a sophomore and me a senior. I knew her name, and that she had roomed with my sophomore sister at their recent confirmation retreat. One fateful day, I set my goal on just talking to her.

Once the youth group meeting had concluded, and we were both done talking to our respective groups and people, she began to walk towards the exit (which was conveniently located behind me). I just made eye contact, that kind of eye contact that’s not in the slightest flirty or creepy, but that says, “hey, I’m about to talk to you.” So she approaches me, and… nothing. I literally opened my mouth, and nothing came out—no name, no greeting, barely even air. I don’t often find myself at a loss for words, but man this was bad. My brain was all:

My sister began to walk by after about eternity a minute and a half of silence. I grabbed my “life raft” of a sister, and began to go on about how she was heading to New York in the next few days.

Long story short, the conversation flowed from then on and we have been great friends since, but it was really embarrassing. Needless to say the ride home with my sister was on the awkward side.

Guys’ take on fashion trends?

To be completely honest, we’ll notice if it looks good. Plain and simple.

Is asking a girl out REALLY that hard?

If it was easy, wouldn’t everyone do it a lot more? It takes guts to do, but that’s actually what makes it fun! Miley Cyrus does a good job of describing what it’s like in Wrecking Ball when she says, “I came in like a wrecking ball, I just closed my eyes and swung.” That’s what it takes. You never know how the other is going to react, even with very VERY obvious signals. Hopefully, your love story doesn’t continue with the message of wrecking ball, but you get the idea.
