Borrow From The Boys: Five Items to Steal From Your Guy’s Closet Now!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IU chapter.

Menswear-influenced clothing graced multiple runways at the latest fall fashion shows. If you want to try the look but don’t want to break the bank doing so, look no further! HCIU has compiled five pieces to borrow from a guy’s closet to get the look without spending a dime. #Winning.

His Flannel ShirtOversized flannel is never more appropriate than during the autumn months. If you want to rock this trend, but don’t have the funds (or the time) to go grab yourself one, look no further than your guy’s closet. Wear it tucked into high-rise skinnies, tie it around your waist, or wear it over a dress. Not only will it achieve your desired look, but it will be pre-worn, aka: super comfy for that 9 AM lecture you thought was a good idea at the start of the semester.

His WatchAn oversized watch is the perfect piece to layer with bracelets. This is an item you can transition from day to night without any work at all. Don’t worry about the strap not fitting your wrist snuggly; the looseness helps it layer seamlessly with bangles!

His SweaterIf there is any clothing item worn more than leggings on IU’s campus, it would be an oversized sweater. We get it, they’re ridiculously comfy and go great with your 10 pairs of black yoga pants. Thanks to your guy, you can add more to your collection! Try adding a feminine touch by pairing it with a skirt and statement necklace. No one will know it was purchased in the men’s section.

His White Button-DownNothing is more simple and chic than a white shirt and ripped jeans. Best of all, it takes no effort. Most guys have at least one of these in their closet, so get to borrowing! Tuck it in to black skinnies and pair it with gold accessories for an easy nighttime look.

His JeansThere’s a reason “boyfriend” jeans became a thing – they’re amazing! Take a break from your skinnies and get comfy in a pair of your guys denim. Cuff them just above your ankles and couple with your fave pair of converse for a laid back vibe. A little too big around your waist? Borrow his belt too!

And if he doesn’t ask for his items back after a few days, keep rocking them. You look better in them anyways. Sharing is Caring!

Calley Cederlof is a Senior at Indiana University studying Journalism. She is a born and raised California girl, but moved to Indiana to pursue her dreams of becoming a writer , and also because she really likes cold weather (joking). Her loves include fashion, her chihuahua Kevin, and pickles (not joking). When she is not spending her time writing for HCIU, Calley can be found perusing local vintage shops or reading her horoscope whilst sipping a very strong cup of coffee. She hopes to one day live in New York City, reside in a shoebox of an apartment and live life the way Carrie Bradshaw would want her to: writing her little heart out and keeping sweaters in her stove.
