Kim Kardashian Is Insecure, but You Don’t Have to Be

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ithaca chapter.

It came out recently that Kim Kardashian feels insecure about her appearance and suffers from body dysmorphia. Kardashian’s body image issues started after the paparazzi took candid photos of her on vacation in Mexico in April. The pictures showed Kardashian in a bikini and featured her butt without any airbrushing. Kardashian said that the image had been sharpened to make her look worse. The pictures didn’t look sharpened, and to be honest, they didn’t look bad.

Most women have cellulite and stretch marks, and it’s nothing to be ashamed of.  It’s completely unrealistic for anyone to expect someone with as big of a butt as Kardashian to have perfectly even skin without any flaws. Even so, people usually only see edited pictures of her. Most people don’t really care if the pictures of Kardashian are perfect, but obviously she does. Seeing a real photo of herself caused Kardashian to suffer from body image issues for months, and that’s really sad.

Pressuring yourself to be perfect and hiding who you are can really damage your self-esteem. Kardashian is a beautiful person and doesn’t need to touch up her photos or beat herself up over her appearance. You don’t have to put yourself down either. It’s okay to have cellulite and stretch marks; they are part of what makes you yourself and you are perfect just as you are. Life gets so much better once you realize that you’re beautiful and amazing (which you are). Having confidence in yourself can go a long way.

It can be tough knowing that celebrities struggle with their appearances because if people as good looking as them aren’t happy with how they look, how can we be? Try to ignore what you hear about celebrities’ insecurities and remember that you are not them; you are your own independent and unique person. The fact that Kim Kardashian is insecure and unhappy doesn’t mean you have to be.
