Heart attacks are common, and they happen every day. But did you know that symptoms of a heart attack on a man can be different to the ones in a woman?

The usual symptoms you will hear about are chest pains and discomfort on your left arm. But according to Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum, your body could be giving you signs about something not being right, mostly with your heart.

Here are some of those silent symptoms that, according to Dr. Steinbaum from The Heart and Vascular Institute at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, women should look out for:

  1. Nausea

In some cases, flu symptoms are reported weeks or days before having a heart attack.

  1. Back and Jaw pain

Irregular pain in your lower or upper back are signs of stress in your heart muscle. Also, according to Dr. Steinbaum, a patient reported to have jaw discomfort while on the treadmill, but there was nothing wrong with her jaw. The discomfort continued until she had a heart attack.  It could be that your heart is not able to send a signal but other parts of your body can.

  2. Shortness of breath

It could be possible that some women experience shortness of breath when doing things they are used to. This could also be a sign linked to heart attacks.

It is important to learn about the symptoms and possibilities of a heart attacks. Letting our mothers, aunts and grandmas know about these is also very important. We need to take as many precautions as possible.

If you experience any of these symptoms and you cannot think of a reason why you’ll feel it, call your doctor or go to an emergency room.  Take care of yourself and prevent any issue with your heart. You can learn more about women health and Dr. Steinbaum here.
