Fashion Blog: Must-Have Spring Fashion Trends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

Springtime is here! Finally, after a very uncommon Midwest winter, the warm temperatures and sunny days are here to stay (hopefully). For me, and I’m sure for most of you, this means switching out big sweaters for lightweight cardigans and sundresses. To help you with your wardrobe spring -cleaning, here’s a list of a few must-have clothing items to make it through the rest of your second semester!

Brightly Colored Jeans

This trend is all over fashion magazines, fashion blogs, and everyone’s favorite new website, Pinterest. A pair of skinnies in a bright color is the perfect way to ring in the new season, and the infinite number of colors jeans are available in this season will ensure that everyone will be able to find her perfect shade. Whether you like teal, salmon, coral, or electric yellow, you will be able to find a pair that fits your unique style and taste.

Pleated Midi-Skirt

This trend is for the more adventurous fashionista. Midi-skirts hit mid-calf, so they are a little longer than a typical skirt, but in a bright color, they are perfect for warm spring days. In a swingy, chiffon material, they are girly and fun and will definitely attract some attention. Pair your skirt with a simple blouse, or even a t-shirt, to dress it down for class.

Show-stopping Sundress

Every girl loves wearing a flirty sundress, so make sure that you incorporate a fabulous one into your wardrobe this spring. Look for one in an interesting pattern or in a fantastic, unique color. Dress it down with a cute pair of strappy sandals, and definitely add some bright, fun jewelry to complete your outfit.

These three fashion trends are guaranteed to garner you some attention on the Quad this spring. Happy spring shopping, collegiettes!

Emily Cleary is a 22-year-old news-editorial journalism major hoping to work in the fashion industry, whether that be in editorial, marketing, PR or event planning is TBD. With internships at Teen Vogue and StyleChicago.com, it's clear that she is a fashion fanatic. When she's not studying (she's the former VP of her sorority, Delta Delta Delta), writing for various publications or attending meetings for clubs like Business Careers in Entertainment Club, Society of Professional Journalists, The Business of Fashion Club, or for her role as the Assistant Editor of the Arts & Entertainment section of her school's magazine, she's doing something else; you will never find her sitting still. She loves: running (you know those crazy cross-country runners...), attending concerts and music festivals, shopping (of course), hanging out with friends, visiting her family at home, traveling (she studied abroad in London when she was able to travel all over Europe), taking pictures, tweeting, reading stacks and stacks of magazines and newspapers while drinking a Starbuck's caramel light frappacino, blogs and the occasional blogging, eating anything chocolate and conjuring up her next big project. Living just 20 minutes outside of Chicago, she's excited to live there after graduation, but would love to spend some time in New York, LA, London or Paris (she speaks French)!
