5 Easy Date Ideas for a Busy College Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

With meetings, jobs, homework, exams, chores, extracurricular activities, and everything in between, it can be hard to juggle it all as a college student, let alone find the time to spend with your significant other. Even if both of you attend the U of I, it may seem impossible to be together on weeknights. However, there are actually plenty of weeknight “dates” you can easily fit into your schedule…no matter how long your to-do list is!

1. Get Dessert Together

There are so many great dessert options available on campus that getting a sweet treat with your sweetheart is a piece of cake. After a long day of class and studying, something to please your sweet tooth is often the perfect way to treat yourself. At the end of your days, find time to meet up for somewhere on Green Street or one of the many coffee shops on campus. Here are some scrumptious desserts on campus:

  • Cold Stone Creamery
  • Tiramisu from Mia Za’s
  • Macarons from Latea
  • Insomnia Cookies
  • Starbucks lemon pound cake

2. Watch a Show Together

Whether it’s on Netflix or on cable, find a TV show you both love and want to watch the newest season, or a new series you’ve both been dying to see. If it’s on cable, this is a great opportunity to put aside some time one night a week to just relax together and forget about everything you’ve got to do! Try to resist watching the next episode before the other person watches it!

3. Cook Together

Everybody’s got to eat, regardless of how busy they are! If you have access to a kitchen where you live, trying out a simple recipe is an easy way to enjoy each other’s company. If neither of you knows how to cook, now is the time to start learning…you’ll need to know how to cook basic meals for when you graduate!

4. Visit the Library Together

If you’re both completely swamped with homework or exams to study for, sometimes there’s just no getting out of going to the library. Going to Grainger or the UGL is a little less unbearable if you have someone to keep you company and help motivate you. Even though you might not be interacting very much with each other for this “date” idea, this is a way to be around each other if you don’t have time to do anything else together.

5. Work Out Together

As Illinois students, we have access to lots of state-of-the-art exercise facilities as part of our tuition. Take advantage of the ARC, CRCE, or (if you have access to one) the gym in your apartment building or dorm. Working out together can be a great way to relieve some of the stress from both of your busy lives, and you can keep each accountable for your fitness goals.
