4 Trends That Totally Need To Die In 2017

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

I want to start of by saying that this isn’t meant to offend anyone, it’s simply just a personal opinion! So if you enjoy doing or wearing any of these then go ahead girl— you do you.

Clear plastic heels

I don’t even know where to begin with there, perhaps the fact that now it’s fashionable to walk around in sweaty, foggy, squeaky heels. Props to the girls who have their shit together and have perfectly manicured feet to wear these out, I truly commend you. Also, if you need more reason as to why you should not wear these check out this funny instagram video https://www.instagram.com/p/BK4JJ59BLcQ/. So please ladies, as much as you love your feet, some of us don’t want to see them.

Adidas superstars

If you haven’t come across these, then you’re probably living under a rock. Now, I’m not going to lie, I did fall victim to this trend about a year and a half ago and bought myself two pairs with the consolation of them not being the basic black stripe. However, when you literally cannot walk around anywhere without at least seeing twenty of these, then I think it’s high time we bid goodbye to these babies. Don’t get me wrong, they go great with a lot of outfits and are super comfy, but they’re probably well beyond their saturation point. While they may have been last year’s ‘superstars’ it’s def time for them to retire.

Over-lined lips

Kylie Jenner, where you at? The over lined lips and insta baddie look go hand in hand. When done right you can slay the crap out of that selfie, but when it looks like you’ve literally taken a marker and tried to add a third lip, it ain’t cute. While we may not all have the money for lip injections, there are plenty of other ways to plump up your lips that don’t require a shot glass or some demonic suction apparatus. You can easily find plumping lip masks that give you both a natural look and moisturize them.

The Insta-Baddie aesthetic

Either Instgram added some sort of filter to achieve this or ever other girl decided to clone herself into this. Extreme Highlight, Check. Adidas gear, check. ‘On Fleek brows’, Check. Heavy lashes, Check. Hand awkwardly in mouth pose, check. Folks, I present to you the one and only, insta baddie. Once again, I have to commend the Kardashian, in particular Kylie Jenner for what has seemed to spawn an army of people with cartoon-smooth skin, perfectly defined flicky eyeliner and cheekbones carved like marble. These ideals of beauty are so skewed and almost intangible, yet so many young girls and women have let these tiny squares filled with perfectly curated content take over their perceived self worth as they believe they have to present themselves like this at all times. Perhaps this makeup makes you feel better and more confident, perhaps you simply have fun doing it, for which I’m totally for.
