Universal Pictures announced that “Wicked” the movie is going to be coming out on December 20, 2019, so mark your calendars now! Stephen Daldry is set to direct and Winnie Holzman and Stephen Schwartz are coming together to write the music for the movie. Before Daldry has a chance to cast the roles, I am trying my hand at casting who I think will be the best for the main roles.

For the role of Galinda, I believe that Megan Hilty would be the best choice for the role. She is very perky, and we know that she has the voice to represent Galinda because of her roles in the TV show “Smash” and the Broadway play “9 to 5.” She will also be great at pulling off the slightly condescending undertone that Galinda has before she changes her name.

Lea Michele is the only person who should play the role of Elphaba. She looks young enough to play a college student, but she also looks just like Idina Menzel. So much that the two played mother and daughter on the hit show “Glee.” Michele has sung half of “Wicked” songs in “Glee,” so she knows most of the songs. Michele also has a big following and can bring in a crowd to see the movie.

I feel like two people would be a great pick for the role of Fiyero. Groff and Criss are people who have a made a name for themselves on the stage and the TV. Groff has the most amazing chemistry with Michele, as seen in the play “Spring Awakening” and the show “Glee”. Groff has the voice to carry the role of Fiyero and would be able to handle the dancing that Fierro has to pull off.

Darren Criss has become a household name since joining the cast of “Glee”, and he keeps growing as a star. Criss has some Broadway experience with being Harry Potter in a small college production of “A Very Potter Musical” and having been in “How to Success in Business in 10 Days.” I know that if Criss shows up on a TV commercial singing “Dancing Through Life,” every girl will go see the movie.

For the role of Boq, it is a tie between Chris Colfer and Daniel Radcliffe. Colfer is someone who would be able to handle the minor role of Boq. He has the voice to carry the role, and he would be able to capture the awkward but sweet way that Boq has.

Radcliffe would also be able to do these things, but he would be able to bring in more of a crowd. The only problem with Radcliffe is that he would cost more than any other star, but it would be worth it to get Radcliffe as the loveable Boq.

Joel Grey is the Wizard and should always be. If someone needs to retain the original role, then it would have to be Grey. He is a musical theater legend and would be perfect to step back into the role of the Wizard. Having Grey as the Wizard would be a way to pay an homage to his fabulous Broadway history.

For the amazing role of Madam Morrible, Helena Bonham Carter would be the perfect person to take this role. Madam Morrible should be played by someone who can act really nice and sweet in one scene but nasty and vindictive in the next scene, and Carter would be able to do this perfectly. Carter is not new to the movie musicals, as she has been in a few. Carter has the vocal range to be able to carry Madame Morrible’s songs perfectly, and she has the attitude to capture the role.

Anna Kendrick is most known for her role in Pitch Perfect, but she has a big background in musical theater and would be a great pick for the role of Nessa. She would be able to bring a big crowd to the theater and would be able to pull off the meek character perfectly. The person who is picked for Nessa needs to be a strong singer but be able to stand back and let Galinda and Elphaba shine. I think Kendrick would be a great fit because she could be able to let the other two shine but also be a star in her role.

The cast will be picked soon and we will see if any of my picks are who make it into the film, but I want to hear what others think. Who do you think will play these wonderful roles?
