What Celebrities To Follow And Not To Follow On Twitter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois State chapter.

I think it’s safe to say that celebrities being on Twitter is one of the best things ever. We can get updated on their amazing lives just by looking through their tweets. So basically, we can be stalkers of our favorite celebrities and not get arrested! How amazing is that? We love the funny, fascinating celebrity accounts that keep us wanting more. So in case you aren’t already following them, here are the five best celebrity accounts you need to follow on Twitter:

1. Anna Kendrick –Anna is definitely a must to follow on Twitter.  She is absolutely hilarious and will keep you giggling. Tweet after tweet is humorous and she speaks her mind. I am positive that her tweets will actually make you “LOL”. Here is a example:

2. Rainn Wilson – Two words: Dwight Schrute. If any of you have seen The Office, Dwight is probably one of your favorite characters. If not, go watch it now. It’s on Netflix!  Rainn’s Twitter is his ridiculous humor that we all love and he doesn’t over tweet, which is always good thing!

3.  Owl City – You know those funny parody accounts like “Fat Amy” and “Funny Tweets?”  Well Owl City is just like those accounts  – but they are the real deal!  I could spend all night scrolling through their tweets, laughing to myself…. It’s totally fine, I’m normal, I promise.

4. Josh Peck – LOVE HIM! He is such a good celebrity to follow and he loves to stay in touch with his fans! I’m still waiting for his reply to my recent tweet; I’m sure it will arrive any day now. He replies to many of his fans with funny and clever responses. All in all, he’s Josh from “Drake and Josh,” so follow him. HUG ME BROTHA!

And of course, there are always going to be people you DO NOT want to follow, because they are annoying or constantly clogging up your timeline (hint – EVERY Kardashian) So I also came up with a list of stars not to follow.

1. Kim Kardashian – Literally her whole twitter feed is promoting her show and more irritatingly HERSELF.  I have never experienced anyone so full of his or her self. All her tweets include links to her website, and I don’t know if that annoys anyone else, but it definitely annoys me.

2. Justin Bieber – Justin Bieber, Justin Bieber, Justin Bieber *shakes head*.  I know there are girls who absolutely adore him, but I am not one of them. Since he has pretty much the whole teen girl population following him, he gets around 60,000 retweets on EVERYTHING. Even his replies to fans or tweets to random things get thousands of retweets. This fact itself makes me a little salty, so he doesn’t deserve my follow (which means nothing, but I like to pretend it does).

3. Miley Cyrus – Oh Miley. Not a lot of words for this girl, but her twitter can get tiresome. She promotes her album and songs CONSTANTLY and it’s just too much. Her tweets are basically links to her websites and replies to her fans. Which none of us care about; lets be honest. Miley, Kim and Justin should hangout! It is not a good thing when your TL consists of something like this:

4. Paris Hilton – What you picture Paris Hilton’s Twitter to be is indeed, exactly what you think. Her bio is “Living Life to the Fullest!”, that’s definitely a red flag for me. Also, half of her posts are Instagram links, which we all know we will never open because they take 0.5 seconds longer to open than a Twitpic and that is just something we cannot handle. Paris, Kim, Miley, and Justin should all hangout!

As you can see, those who are clever, funny and imaginative are worth following; those who are self-indulgent are not. I hope this helped you choose who to spend your time following on Twitter, happy following!
