Virtual makeover sites that work

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois State chapter.

Want to make a drastic change to your style but afraid of the outcome? Using an online virtual makeover site can help you with your tricky style decisions. There are a bunch of different sites out there for girls to use in order to try out different hairstyles but some are better than others.

Mary Kay
This site you have to make an account for, but it is well worth it! This free virtual makeover site lets you try on all shades of Mary Kay makeup, as well as try on hairstyles of all different colors. Once you upload a picture of yourself the site instructs you on how to define different areas of your face and this helps to have a more accurate placement of hairstyles and makeup. The site also puts all the different cosmetics you select on a side bar so you can purchase them if you like the look!

In Style
Virtual hairstyle sites can be hard to maneuver, but In Style makes it so easy! This site also defines areas of your face so that the makeup and hair match up to your face too.  In Style offers over 100 celebrity hairstyles to try on and they include complete celebrity looks, which include the makeup the stars wore. One unique aspect of this virtual makeover is that they put how-to tips on the right hand side to help you achieve your desired look.

Cosmopolitan
Cosmo had tons of hairstyles to choose from… all of which were celebrity styles! This made it easy to find a specific look that you wanted to achieve.  However, this site did not offer face-tracing so the hairstyles and make up did not match up perfectly to your face.

Seventeen
This virtual makeover site was the most difficult out of the four that I tried. They have a very limited amount of hairstyles, and it does not offer face-tracing like Mary Kay or In Style. This made it hard to fit the hairstyles to the faces correctly. One positive aspect is that the website puts the makeup products that you select on the right hand side of the screen so they are available for purchase after you are complete.

Hopefully these four options will help you decide which site to use while making those tough style decisions!
