Roses Are Red, Violets Are Blue

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois State chapter.

It’s the season of love and the main event is right around the corner.  Flowers, chocolates, candle-lit dinners, these are all things we think of when we think about Valentines Day. Are we limited to the typical lovey-dovey flowers, hearts, and kisses though? We now live in a world where being single and embracing it on Valentine’s Day is just as important as spending it with a significant other. Self-love is just as important as the love of another person. This day should be about looking good, feeling and sharing love in general. Whether you’re treating yourself, spending the day with some gal pals, or celebrating with a significant other, this is a special day. Spread love and laughter, and don’t leave the house without that perfect outfit! Whatever your plans may be, let this be an outfit guide for your Valentine’s Day adventures.

The One In Love

This holiday is made for you + your bae. This is a day for enjoying the one you care for. You should feel pampered and loved. Try a lose wave in your hair and an elegant dress for a dinner date with your significant other. Nude is the perfect color; It’s subtle and sweet. Keep accessories simple. A clutch will be perfect for an evening out. You’ll never have to toss those petals and wonder if he loves you or loves you not again!

The Hopeless Romantic

Live and love are similes for you. Not just today, but every day. To live, you have to love. Valentine’s Day is equally as important as your birthday, and you intend to celebrate it that way. This day is all about romance. Spend the day watching romance flicks with your boyf (or by yourself) and expect lots of chocolates and flowers. Your ultimate outfit inspo for the day? Something girly and fun, of course! Graphic tanks & tee’s are trending right now, and what a better time to wear one? Layer your tee with a denim jacket to keep it cute and casual. Pairing these with a leather skirt will dress it up, but you’ll still feel girly and pretty. This look allows you to cater to your loved ones every desire and be comfy cute doing it.

The Single Girl

It’s that time of the year again. All of your friends are in relationships and you’re sick of hearing about Valentine’s Day plans. I mean, what’s the big deal? It’s just another day right? Why should you have to feel like you’re left out of some special celebration that the rest of the world seemingly participates in? You don’t! Valentine’s Day is just as much for all the single ladies (and gents) as it is for those lucky people who get to share it with someone. This day is about self-love for you! Throw on some distressed boyfriend jeans (ironic, I know) and layer over fishnets to feel like a total bada**. Add some booties to feel extra sassy and go buy yourself something you’ve wanted for a long time. Take yourself to a movie. Being able to spend time by yourself and enjoy it is key to self love. This is your day and you don’t have to worry about anyone else.

Valentine’s Day is For the Girls

You’ve heard Saturdays are for the boys, but did you know Valentine’s Day is for the girls? No, seriously. What a better way to celebrate the holiday of love than to spend it with ones who always have your back? Not to mention the possibilities are endless! Tapas and martinis? Yes. Girl’s night in? Yes. Girl’s night out? Even more yes. Seriously, the girls are down for anything, especially when it comes to celebrating this holiday season.  A knit sweater with a cool moto jacket says cool girl chic. Add booties to dress it up, or some sneaks to keep it casual.
