Memorable Moments of the VMAs

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois State chapter.

MTV’s Video Music Awards broadcast the most memorable moments on live television known to our generation. The shocking moments fill up our Twitter and Facebook feeds faster than it should and these jaw-dropping occurrences become the topic of conversation whether we like it or not. This is our list of the top memorable moments of this year’s VMAs.

10. Miley Cyrus hosting, Selena Gomez appearing with T-Swift and squad, Nick Jonas performing Levels” and Demi Lovato absolutely killing it while she sang Cool for the Summer”, I was starting to think it was a Disney channel reunion.

9. Pharrell’s performance encouraging our generation to refuse to listen to the man and embrace our “Freedom” to be ourselves.

8. Tori Kelly’s hair-raising, talented performance of “Should’ve Been Us”.

7. Taylor Swift’s surprise appearance on Nicki Minaj’s performance, officially squashing all Twitter beef.

6. The redemption and emotional return of Justin Bieber’s five-year performance hiatus on the VMAs.

5. The Weeknd’s incredible, fiery (literally) performance.

4. Taylor Swift’s incredibly sweet introduction to Kanye West winning the Vanguard Award. (Although, I would really love to see Taylor and her brother’s iTunes receipt from 2004).

3. The 5 minute applause for Kanye West’s Vanguard Award and the 10 minute (slightly confusing) speech that followed… *mic drop* #Kanye2020

2. Nicki Minaj demanding, “What’s good?” with her and Miley Cyrus. For lack of better terms, the press may or may not have set up a feud between the two… leaving viewers with their jaw dropped and frantically googling what the HELL happened between Nicki Minaj and Miley.

1. The nip slip of the year and the best attempt at album drop of the year. Shout out to Miley Cyrus and her damn crazy antics.

And the winners are…
