Lindsay’s Fashion Blog: Sheer maxi skirt

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois State chapter.

The sheer maxi skirt is a versatile piece that can be worn in as many ways as you can imagine. Whether with Converse or simple flats it can be the perfect for any event. The sheer maxi shirt made its appearance last year but it’s still going strong with no intention of disappearing. Why not try it?

Let’s be honest, anything sheer can be intimidating. It can seem hard to style but don’t fret it can be pulled off quite easily. There are many variations of this skirt, it can be full on layers of sheer material or one layer and have a skirt underneath it. Sometimes this style can be seen to resemble a fishtail effect, its hemmed short in the front and long in the back. With that in mind it’s easy to pair this skirt with numerous tops, sweaters are the most popular. The combination of a cool bottom and heavier top works!

Another option to wear this skirt would be with a basic t-shirt, simple. Because this skirt is such a statement piece it doesn’t have to be overdone with a flashy top…unless you want to. The skirt just has its own flair and can speak volumes about your own personality. Clothes just seem to do that. With a basic t-shirt you can wear a chunky necklace and flats; simple! To dress it up, pair the skirt with a blazer with a neutral top underneath it and a pair of heels or boots.

You have to keep an open eye on where to find these skirts, a friend of mine snagged one at Forever 21 and I couldn’t believe it. I don’t see them that often so I was shocked that she got it from there. Check out such places as Nordstrom, Modcloth, and Urban outfitters to start your search, you’re bound to find lots of styles of this skirt. Good luck!
