ISU Fashion Show Designer Spotlight: Hailee Campbell

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois State chapter.

Sugar, spice, everything nice. Expect exactly that from Hailee Campbell’s 2017 collection for the ISU Fashion Show. This design major’s collection is girly and fun, and will leave everyone wanting to have a good time Read on to find out more about this fun designer!

Her Campus: Have you always been a fashion major?

Hailee: Yes I have, I actually wasn’t too interested in fashion during high school, but got into it my Senior year and decided that I wanted to learn to design myself. Luckily I never decided I didn’t like the major, so I’ve stayed a fashion major and haven’t had any regrets.

Her Campus: What inspires you to do the work you do?

Hailee: The lack of clothing options that suit my taste in fashion. I know a lot of people who can’t find what they’re looking for because the options are limited, I and decided to work toward making clothes that suit me and other people like myself.  My sense of fashion is kind of hard to explain, I like pastels and cutesy clothes all year round, which is actually hard to find in stores here.

Her Campus: Tell us something interesting about yourself that sets you apart from other designers:

Hailee: I am also a cosplayer. Cosplaying is where you pick a character from any show, anime, manga, comic book, video game, or even cartoon and decide to dress up as that character. I’ve been cosplaying since I was about 13, so I had come into this major knowing how to sew and create a few things myself. It’s a pretty fun hobby and I’m always learning new skills.

Her Campus: Other than designing for the fashion show, what other projects are you working on right now?

Hailee: School assignments mostly take up my time outside of the fashion show. It’s a very busy semester, but once the fashion show is over I will start working on my cosplay for the next convention that I’ll be going to in the summer.

Her Campus: What’s your favorite part about the FDM program?

Hailee: My favorite part is actually how helpful everyone is, from the teachers to the students. Everyone has been willing to help one another without expecting anything in return and it’s just really nice.

Her Campus: What are your plans after college?

Hailee: My plans after college are to find a place where it’s warm to work and continue making my own designs. I’ve been looking into a few different companies to work for, and my own designs will be little side projects to continue my portfolio.

Her Campus: As far as your collection for the 2017 fashion show, can you give us an idea of what we can expect?

Hailee: You can expect a lot of pastel and have an overall reaction that you think my collection is super cute and fun, it’s very upbeat. Hopefully everyone who sees my designs would want to wear them as well but that’s just me.
