Hocus Pocus: The Halloween Movie of Our Generation

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois State chapter.

October has finally arrived. Pumpkin spiced everything, flannels, apple cider, fuzzy socks and cute boots should be incorporated into every day of the month. Every weekend should consist of a great classic Halloween movie. But the best of the best for anyone in their late teens and early twenties? Hocus Pocus. It’s the first movie that comes to so many of our minds when we think Halloween. Here are a few reasons why it’s everyone’s favorite:

1. Sarah Jessica Parker.

Need I say more? SJP is queen.

2. Winifred is everyone in the morning.

Especially Mondays.

3. Because of THIS.

An absolute must for every good Halloween party.

4. Sarah Sanderson singing Come Little Children.

So creepy. So good.

5. The amount of times it’s made clear that Max is a virgin.

He’ll get it tattooed on his forehead, okay?

6. Mary didn’t get a broom.

Close enough?

7. AMOK!

Some days I’m Sarah, some days I’m Winifred.

8. Thackery Binx.

Still can’t decide if we like him better as a human or a cat.

9. Dani’s sass.

She may be young but she’s not short on wit.

10. The Book.

Still gives us the creeps.

11. Because of Jay and Ice

Probably still hanging in those cages.

12. Billy Butcherson.

He’s a good zombie.

13. Winifred’s rabbit teeth.

Iconic.

14. They say the name of the movie IN THE MOVIE.

15. The Burning Rain of Death

16. The adult jokes we missed when we were young.

Come on, mortal bus man.

17. Allison totally owns Max in class.

And teaches us what Halloween is really about.

18. It teaches us what salt can actually do.

It protects against witches, zombies, and old boyfriends.

19. Because of how Winifred says “Boooooooook

20. And finally, because the Sanderson Sisters are our favorite sister witches ever.

Be sure to tune in on ABC Family on Monday, Oct. 19 to watch Hocus Pocus!
