Get a NEW spring wardrobe for less!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois State chapter.

Are you worried about keeping up with the new spring fashions but don’t have the cash flow to go on a shopping spree? Most collegiettes™ think that in order to get the look they want they have to spend hundreds of dollars at all the name brand stores. But in actuality, this is the far from the truth! Here are several ways to get a new spring wardrobe for a reasonable price:

Shop for name brands at stores such as Marshalls, T.J. Maxx, Plato’s Closet, and thrift stores. All these stores sell name brand clothing at a low cost. You can find name brands such as Ralph Lauren, Polo, Calvin Klein, Abercrombie, American Eagle and Forever 21.

Local Plato’s Closet: 1407 N Veterans Parkway
Local T.J. Maxx: 2103 N Veterans Parkway

Shop with cash. When you shop with cash, it is easier to limit yourself on how much you spend. If you know you can’t spend more than $40, only bring $40.
Then you definitely won’t go over your limit! It’s as simple as that. If you shop with a credit card you are able to spend as much as you can because there is no limit. Shopping with a credit card=DANGEROUS!

Shop online. This is the one exception to shopping with a credit card! There are many benefits to shopping online rather than shopping in store. Many times there are more clearance items and sale items online than there are in the actual store. When you shop online, there is also more of a selection to choose from and you can compare prices with other stores. Take Forever 21 for instance. They always have many pages of clearance items online, but in the store it is extremely hard to find clearance items because of how messy and crowded the store can be.

Ask if items will be going on sale shortly. Before making a large purchase at a store, ask a sales associate if any of the items you plan to buy will be going on sale anytime soon. This way you can wait for the items to go on sale and save yourself some money. If you ask with a friendly face, they more than likely will have no problem giving you a heads up on sales.

Share clothes with friends. It is common to have the same taste in clothes as your friends do. If you are about the same size than you’re in luck! Sharing and borrowing clothes is a great way to save money. Emma Mebane, ISU Freshman and Watterson resident, lives with three other roommates. “I love having 3 roommates! We all share clothes and go through each other’s closets all the time. We all came back from Spring Break with new clothes and I already borrowed and worn their new clothes before they have,” Mebane said.

It’s a great feeling knowing that spring is here and you can stuff all that winter gear back in your closet. But now you just need to save yourself the stress of shopping for that new wardrobe by following these easy five steps!
