5 Ways To Feel More Confident At The Gym

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois State chapter.

Open recreation centers and gyms can be extremely intimidating for women, especially women our age. A stigma has been smashed onto us college girls that demands we look like Victoria’s Secret models. How is getting yourself to the gym everyday even possible when you rarely have time to breathe?

Although we may not always have time to get a good workout in six days a week, with a rest day on Sunday, it is so important to take some time for yourself and get to the gym every once in a while. When you’ve got the time and motivation, head into the testosterone oozing gym with CONFIDENCE. This will make your workout much easier and much more efficient.

Here are five ways to help YOU feel more confident at the gym:

1. Blast the music!!!

Drown out the rest of the gym-world with your favorite pump-up playlist! My playlist consists of tons of G-Eazy, Post Malone, and many other mainstream hip-hop artists. Search my name on Spotify if you’re THAT interested!

2. Watch yourself.

This may seem a little odd, but it has been proven that watching your reflection makes you work harder! Watch your own muscles grow!

3. Stick to the basics.

Don’t go to the machines that you’ve never used before. This will just intimidate you and make you feel smaller than everyone around you at the gym. Stick to free weights (such as dumbbells) and beginner machines until you’re more advanced!

4. CARDIO!!!

Anyone can hop on the treadmill, the elliptical, or walk the stair master. Cardio works up a sweat and really makes you feel like you’ve accomplished something. Spend your entire 45-minute gym session on the treadmill if that’s what makes you sweat the most!

5. Eat before your workout.

Without food, your body won’t have any energy or carbs to burn off! Eat a small meal before working out to prevent grogginess. I usually go for egg whites and a cup of oatmeal!

And remember, just because society says that you should have a picture-perfect body doesn’t mean that you have to. Work out for yourself and work out with CONFIDENCE!
