HC: What are you involved in at HWS?
CM: I am a member of Three Miles Lost (3ML), all female a cappella group, the HWS Club Ski Team, and the varsity sailing team. I also serve on the Student Athletic Advisory Committee for William Smith Athletics.
HC: What is your biggest accomplishment so far at HWS?
CM: The Three Miles Lost music video for “Til it Happens to You” is my biggest accomplishment so far at HWS, not because it has over 180,000 views on YouTube, but because of the response it’s getting. In the last two weeks, there have been so much love and support from the HWS community and so many people sharing how our video has made a difference in their lives, it’s an amazing feeling.
HC: What inspired 3ML to create this music video?
CM: We received an email from Nelle Crossan, a 3ML alum about the song for survivors contest that Lady Gaga is hosting, so we talked about it as a group and decided it was something worth doing. Sexual assault is a terrible epidemic, everyone in 3ML has been affected by it in some way, whether it happened to one of us or our friends, and we wanted to do something that would send the message of support to the HWS community and get others involved too.
HC: What were the biggest challenges with making the video and recreating the song?
CM: I’d have to say that finding time was the hardest part. Bree von Bradsky and everyone in 3ML is involved in so many aspects of the campus community, that it was difficult finding time to meet outside of our scheduled rehearsal to get it done!
HC: What skills have you obtained from having this amazing experience?
CM: I’ve been in communication with a lot of reporters since this video has come out and have been writing a bunch of our posts with the help of the group. It’s definitely helped me learn how to interact with people in more professional settings.
HC: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
CM: I’d like to be writing for a TV show in 5 years, and hopefully have my own in 10! I’ve been obsessed with Grey’s Anatomy since it came out and am a huge Shonda Rhimes fan, so I aspire to create a show that is as emotionally captivating as Grey’s.
HC: Who inspires you?
CM: I’m inspired by almost everyone around me, my roommate Gabby Steinhardt inspires me to be a better friend, my teammates inspire me to push harder, and my family members inspire me to love the things I do.
HC: What are three things you can not live without?
CM: The three things I can’t live without are music (especially Beyoncé and Adele), coffee, and ranch dressing.
HC: What is something that most people do not know about you?
CM: I really really hate mushrooms… My sister made me eat a mushroom in 6th grade and the next day I got my appendix out so I’ve never trusted them.
Check out the video Til it Happens to You that was arranged by Nick Bombicino and filmed by Bree von Bradsky ’16. It is truley a moving and heartfelt song that will put anyone in awe.
