He Put a Ring on it

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at HPU chapter.

Have you ever wished you could understand the thought process a guy has when he proposes to his fiancé? How does he pick the right ring size without her getting suspicious? At what point does he realize that it’s time to pop the question? What is he going through that day? We dug into the brain of our friend Josh Sheetz who recently proposed to his girlfriend Kate.

Josh is a 27-year-old student who is graduating this Spring with a bachelor’s degree in advertising and public relations. Josh and Kate met out here in Hawai’i, but happen to be from the same hometown in Colorado and had no idea until they started dating! They have been together now for 4 years and plan on getting married this September.

“I happened to pass by a jewelry store and saw this really nice ring that caught my eye. I went inside to go look at some others and I ended up buying a ring that day,” Josh explains when asked what made him decided it was the right time to ask Kate to marry him. “Then I realized, well, I guess I’ll ask Kate to marry me over Christmas break.”

December 22nd came around, and Josh was very much prepared. “We were out in downtown Denver when I told her that I have to go run somewhere and that I will call her once I am done. I went to go set up at this clocktower, rose petals, candles, all sorts of romantic stuff. So I called her and told her to meet me here and go up this clocktower. She came and I had champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, and rose petals all over the floor. And on the table, I had a vase, Beauty and the Beast style, with lights in it, and the ring sitting inside with a note that said, ‘Will you marry me?’” Isn’t this what every girl dreams of when they think about being proposed to?!

“I then came out, got on my knee, and said, ‘Kate, will you marry me?’”

Congratulations Josh and Kate! We wish you a life full of happiness!
