Experiencing Fall in Hawaii

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at HPU chapter.

I have lived in Hawaii my whole life and as a local, we know fall comes around – not when the leaves are changing color, but when Starbucks brings out their signature Pumpkin Spice Latte. The temperature does start to get cooler but that is pretty much it for fall weather in Hawaii. That being said, however, here are some things that I still like to do to actually get me in the fall spirit.

Fall Candles

When Bath and Body Works starts bringing out their fall candles, I am sprinting there (not really because I can barely fast walk) but I will go in there and smell every single candle until I get a headache finding the ones that will make my room smell like cinnamony-spicy-warm goodness.

Soup anyone?

I always like to think that on the Mainland, people eat/drink a lot of soup in the fall, so I do the same. I do not necessarily try to replicate any specific type of soup but instead, I go out to eat Pho (Vietnamese noodle soup).

Pumpkin EVERYTHING

I will buy pumpkin flavored everything! Coffee creamer, cakes, cookies and any dessert you can think of that is pumpkin flavored – I will 99% of the time most likely get it.

Wearing a light sweater

I will wear a very light sweater in the mornings here because it is a tad bit chilly but you better believe that 85-degree weather will get you midday.

Throw in a little Christmas music

Okay, this may seem odd but literally, it is October and before we know it it’ll be Christmas so might as well start preparing for it.

Set the mood

During this time of the year, I like to bring out my twinkle lights and set the mood in my room. I like to have all the lights off except my twinkle lights, a candle burning, and hot chocolate (that is cooled down, so basically lukewarm chocolate because nights are still relatively warm).

These are just a few of the ways I get myself feeling like it’s fall in Hawaii. No, I can’t go running through the leaves that fell to the ground changing color, but I can watch sunsets change color on the beach so that’s the same thing right? Same color scheme… you feel me?
