Tune-In Tuesdays: Imagine Dragons

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

There’s always that one musician or band that sparks an interest in you, and all you want to do is listen to their music for hours on end, nonstop, on repeat. For me, that was the band “Imagine Dragons.”

They didn’t become popular until almost a year and a half ago, and I remember listening to them before their hits were on the radio. I was recommended them from a friend of mine in high school, and then my brother randomly played their song “Demons” one day in the car while I was driving to school.

At first, I thought their “edgy” vibe would not suit my taste. But wow, was I wrong. They are classified under “Alternative” in iTunes, and I really appreciate their sound. They can go from having a more “hardcore” type of song like “Radioactive,” but then turn to a more upbeat, happy tone, like in the song “On Top Of The World”.

I feel as if this band can really make you feel connected to their music. I attended an Imagine Dragons concert on July 26th, 2013 at Jones Beach in the pouring rain. Honestly, I thought the rain made it that much better. The mood was intensified, and it was almost as if everything was at peace. The band members were so sincere in their performance and really appreciated where they stood.

I will never forget what the lead singer, Dan Reynolds, said to us that night: “Tonight we forget about our problems, forget what’s going on outside of Jones Beach and we’re going to have a good time and be free.” To me, Imagine Dragons truly is an inspiration, and the band members themselves are really whole-hearted people.
