Alright girls, we’ve heard the news… Zayn Malik left One Direction (try to hold back those tears). For a lot of people, it stings. It feels like a piece of us is missing. Will One Direction ever be the same?

My roommate and I were contemplating wanting to listen to them ever again. We realized it may not be the same anymore, but we still love the band.  I have no doubt that they can make it work.

But how did we cope? How could we possibly accept the fact that this beautiful bad boy from Bradford left the band we’d fallen in love with five years ago? We decided to torture ourselves by listening to One Direction songs. This way, we were able to embrace all of the good that Zayn brought to these songs.

If you want to try the coping method, here are 12 of the best One Direction songs to listen to in honor of Zayn:

1) “What Makes You Beautiful”: The first hit off the first album, the classic. It’s still one of my favorite songs of all time. It pretty much seems like they are singing directly to you and calling you beautiful (thanks boys, always appreciated).

2) “Up All Night”: This was the title of their debut album, and it was also a fun-loving song about goofing off and spending time with people you really care about. We care about Zayn, so let’s listen.

3) “Tell Me A Lie”: Zayn’s vocals really shine in this tune. His fans knew that he was able to hit those higher notes, which made him special. Tie it in with this upbeat song and you’ve got yourself a fun (and pretty relevant) song.

4) “Little Things”: This was a huge hit on the radio when the boys’ second album came out. Each singer got their solo that really pointed out their strong qualities. You’ll hear Zayn’s God-sent voice with ease.

5) “Live While We’re Young”: When this song first came out, a lot of people called it “Zayn featuring One Direction,” because he sang many solos in it. Enjoy that.

6) “Kiss You”: I don’t know what it is, but I want to bounce around to this song. It’s so much fun and you know the boys are really having fun with this. In the music video, Zayn is really goofy and is truly enjoying his time with the boys. He also has that weird blonde streak in his hair…remember that time?!

7) “Story Of My Life”: If the radio didn’t overplay this song enough for you, try giving it another go. This song, I believe, will never get old. It’s heartwarming, just like Zayn’s whole One Direction experience to us should be.

8) “You and I”: I’m sorry; I meant my possible wedding song. This love ballad is so romantic and just so beautiful. Zayn hits one of the most amazing high notes I’ve ever heard – seriously, who can reach that?! It gives me chills and little butterflies.

9) “Best Song Ever”: Just go look at the music video. Zayn’s shy personality doesn’t exist in this comedic gold.  This is an all-around happy song and once again, he hits another high note with ease.

10) “Night Changes”: Fresh off their newest album, Four, this is another song where I recommend the music video. You get to go on a date with Zayn, what more can you ask for? (You also go on dates with the rest of the band, so you just win at life).  It’s a nice, slower melody and it’s just all-around cute.

11) “Where Do Broken Hearts Go”: Another one off their new album. Zayn’s voice really shines in this (it always does, but you can distinctly hear him in this too, which is always a bonus).

12)  “One Way Or Another (Teenage Kids)”: This song isn’t on any album, but One Direction deserves some acknowledgement for it. The boys did a cover of this song for charity, and their music video perfectly describes who they are. You get to see Zayn as a down-to-earth, loving and caring guy. This was a great thing they did, and I honestly have so much respect for them

So let’s not forget to realize that Zayn is still the amazing singer who has shown his sweet, crazy and talented side to the world for five years.  He may not be in the band anymore, but he gets to start a new chapter in his life. So thank you, Zayn Malik, for touching all your fans’ hearts. We wish nothing but the best for you.
