The Stages of Liking Someone

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

At some point in time most girls experience the train wreck of emotions that are having a new crush. We tend to get super invested before anything even takes off ground. Yes, we know that’s irrational but somehow within minutes of meeting your crush you become super invested. And by super invested I mean crazy. Irrational, crazy and unpredictable all sealed with a smile that only our close girl friends could unmask.

Here is the prolonged thought process involved in liking someone:

1.     Not bad, not bad – you’re cute, make me laugh and are relatively smart

2.     Play it cool, it’s too soon to show crazy

3.     Seriously get your shit together, as a feminist you’ve fought way too hard too just to fall apart with a guy around

4.     Equal rights, equal pay, equal love

5.     Stahhhp omg he’s being so cute rn

6.     He just texted me! I’m too excited

7.     *Texts group chat with friends for subtle yet flirty reply’s to bae*

8.     Just know that all my friends are involved from the first interaction

9. *Resumes composure* “So, how was your day?”

10. Hold up!! Who is this girl in your snap story?!

11. Reign it in, it’s TOO early to be this crazy, she’s just a friend

12. Literally it has been 45min since you’ve texted me back, it’s ~her~ isn’t it

13. No you know what? It’s cool we’re not dating anyways

14. Is he not aware both snap chat and IMessage have read receipts??

15. *Texts group text* “HE’S SUCH AN ASSHOLE, I CAN’T BELIEVE HIM!!!”

16. *Best friends bring you back to earth*

17. He texts back “I wish we were hanging out right now”

18. THAT’S RIGHT, she’s got nothing on me, I’m perfect

19. Literally…. I’m pretty, smart, funny, a good cook and progressive

20. Why am I single??

21. It’s because I’m intimidating isn’t it

22. Oh well, the right guy will stick it out

23. Hint hint…. The right guy is you

24. Wow we’d look so cute hand in hand

25. I bet he’s an amazing cuddler, look at those arms!!

26. Seriously, calm down, he’s just a guy

27. Wait he just asked to hangout!!

28. *Texts group chat* “Who’s available to Facetime later? I need help picking out an outfit”

29. *Facetime’s* Spends half hour picking out outfit and 1.5 hours gushing about why he’s so great

30. Gets ready for the date

31. *Discovers he has poor grammar*

32. Nope sorry, we can’t be together anymore, it was fun while it lasted

33. Still confused as to why I’m single??

Its ok girl, you’re not alone! #perfect

Hofstra '17 Hofstra Chapter Vice President (December '16 - December '17) From a young age Naledi has been obsessed with all things pop culture and entertainment. Through writing for Her Campus she has been able to reach a large audience of badass collegiate women who share her crazy passions as well. Beyond Her Campus Naledi is IN LOVE with Hofstra. Her favorite part? The school of comm for allowing her to branch out and get a real dip into the real world prior to graduating. Additionally Naledi is one of those classic people who studies abroad in the spring of 2016 and won't ever stop talking about it! Her best advice? Go and see the world kids and fall in love with your major like Ali and Noah from the Notebook fell in love with each other.
Coming from a small town in Connecticut, Hailey is a recent graduate of Hofstra University.
