Spring Bucket List for Long Island

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

Spring is a beautiful and fun time of the year. With the weather finally starting to warm up, you actually have the motivation to do some fun stuff on the weekends! (Not that a Netflix binge every weekend isn’t fun, but you can’t stay in your room forever. Can you?) Either way, here are a few ideas to get you out, moving, and having fun in the great spring air!

Visit Fire Island

There is never a time to not go to the beach. With the weather heating up, this could be a great time to start your summer tan! The water may be a tad bit cold for swimming but you still can’t beat the sound of the ocean! It’s a great stress reliever and will be great during finals.

Fire Island has many different beaches spanning almost 32 miles – so you’re bound to find a spot that you like. There are tons of things to do on Fire Island as well that don’t involve the beach. You can take a beautiful walk through the sunken forest which is one and and a half miles long, visit one of the many lighthouses, or grab a snack at one of the snack bars.

Go berry picking in Eastern Long Island

There are tons of places to go strawberry picking on Eastern Long Island. During late May and early June, there are a bunch of farms that you can pick your own fruit from. Berry picking is a really fun thing to do on the weekend and you can’t get berries any fresher!

Here are a couple places you could go:

Lewin Farm

Whickam’s Fruit Farm

Patty’s Berries and Bunches

Windy Acres

Seven Ponds Orchard

See a concert at Nassau Coliseum

The Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum is now officially open after their $130 million renovations. They will host Nets games, live concerts, UFC matches, and hockey games as well. Some of the concerts include Metallica on May 17th and The Weeknd on June 3rd. You’re not going to want to miss it!

See a concert at Jones Beach

Another place to see concerts is the Nikon at Jones Beach theater. From air shows to their 2017 Country Music Festival you will definitely find something to see! Their air shows are from 5/26 to 5/28 and their country festival has multiple dates. They also have Train and Natasha Bedingfield coming on 6/14 and The BLI Summer Jam including Jason Derulo, Flo Rida and more happening on 6/16.

The Jones Beach theater is beautiful and it’s right on the water. Sometimes depending on the show, you could score tickets for under $60!
