Hofstra Hello: Interview With A Study Abroad Student

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

Name, hometown, class standing, major?

My name’s Joseph Marrone, I’m a junior, I’m from Franklin Square, NY, and my major is marketing and management.

Was this your first time traveling abroad?

No. I went the summer going into college for a graduation gift. I went to Venice, Florence, and Rome.

How long were you there for?

A little over three weeks.

You chose to study abroad in Venice, was there a specific reason for this?

They had a program that met my degree and I loved going to Venice before. I already got the touristy things out of the way the first time I went, so I thought this would give me the opportunity to live like a Venetian.

Was there one thing you absolutely had to bring on your trip?

Converter for the plugs and my phone!

What was your favorite part about Italy?

It’s so tough. I would just have to say the culture because its so relaxed and it’s so rich with history that you can’t help but feel in awe when you’re walking the streets.

What is your best memory from the trip?

When we took a trip to Florence on the weekend, a few friends and I decided to go to the Duomo and right next to it was a bell tower. When we climbed to the top the bell started going off and it was amazing because you felt the vibrations and heard the sounds and when you looked out you saw Florence at dusk. It was an amazing sight.

Would you recommend this trip to other students looking to study abroad?

Without a doubt, hands down great experience, and it was nice during the January semester because you don’t have to worry about missing a semester at Hofstra.
