Fashion Challenge: Holiday Movie-Inspired Outfits

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Hot Chocolate, Christmas trees, multiple festive sweaters given to you by that one Aunt who still doesn’t get that you’re not into them…. And my personal favorite, Christmas movies. It’s not really Christmas until you get to see the Grinch’s heart grow 3 sizes, or see Buddy the Elf fall in love. Something about Christmas movies just puts you in the holiday spirit and remind you of your childhood spending the holidays surrounded by family. While watching some of your favorite festive flicks take note of the characters styles and see if you can incorporate any of these lead characters into your wardrobes this season!

Judy Garland keeps her classy demeanor and impeccable style in the movie “Meet Me in St. Louis.” While attending a Christmas party she wears an iconic red dress. Completing her look with a strand of pearls and white gloves, she looks flawless. Take a break from your little black dress and try a classic red dress which would be perfect for any holiday party you plan on attending. Take a tip from Judy and pair off your dress with simple accessories and stunning red lipstick. Red is the perfect color to work into your wardrobe during the holiday season. No matter how you style you outfit you will look incredibly festive.

From her sky-high updos to those adorable sparkling cheeks, Cindy Lou Who is a classic Christmas character who imbodies the true spirit of the holidays. Achieving Cindy’s hairstyle would require multiple cans of hairspray and an expertise of hair that I cannot even imagine, so dressing like Cindy seems like a much more manageable feat. Her adorable pink nightgown with its frilly collar would be a fantastic party dress when styled right. If you can’t seem to work out her hairstyle try an easier Cindy look by adding a few pink bows into the mix. Any extra sparkle you can add would be Who-tastic!

Jack Skellington does everything in his power to bring Christmas to Halloweentown. And through his quest he looks quite dapper in his suit, for being a dead guy and all. As previously discussed in my menswear article I love incorporating tailored  looks into your wardrobe. Jack’s pinstripe suit would look fanastic as a skirt with tights, or a full blown dress. Pair off your outfit with some black accesories to work in the glammed up gloom that is Halloweentown and you will have a outfit that puts the Pumpkin King to shame.

No matter how you spend this holiday season, I hope you all have a magical time with your friends and family. Happy Holidays!
